Geography

The State of Mexico, in the central area of the Republic of Mexico,is geographically located in the east of the Anáhuac Plateau, which has an average altitude of 2,683 meters. The Federal District of Mexico City, capital of the Republic, is surrounded by the State on East, West and North three sides.

Population: 13,642,704 (as of 2002)-13.43% of the nation's total.

History and Culture

More than twenty thousand years ago the earliest men emerged in Mexico. They lived in groups by lineage. Later they discovered fire and wild corns and invented corn grinders. Between A.C. 800– 900 they built up the giant city of Teotihuacan, a symbol of azteca cultural prosperity. In August 1521, the Spanish conquered the Kingdom of Azteca. In 1821 Mexico declared independence. The State of Mexico is rich in history. Inside of the State there is the site of the Ancient City of Teotihuacan, which the Indians call the Land of Divinity. The site is the location of the world famous Sun Pyramid and Moon Pyramid. Also known to the world is the six-layered pyramid, three sides of which are snake-shaped.

Economy and Industry

The State's GDP in 2000 was USD 53.8 billion. The per capita GDP is appr. US$ 4,000. The State of Mexico is one of the most important manufacturing base for export in the country. Among its best-selling exports are automobiles and vehicles, machines, materials for electronic equipment, plastics, apparel and organic chemicals.

Establishment of Sister Province/State Relationship

On June 3rd, 2002, Mr. LU Ruihua, Governor of GD and Lic. Arturo Montiel Rojas, Governor of the State of Mexico, signed the Agreement to establish the Sister Province/State Relationship in Guangzhou.

Friendly Exchanges

Before the establishment of sister relations, the two sides explored the cooperation potential in economy and trade, sports, tourism. Both agreed that there was plenty of room for collaboration because of the complimentary advantage. After the establishment of Sister Province/State Relationship, GD continued to send delegations to Mexico and explored the possibility of cooperation in economy and tourism. Mexico welcomes investment from GD. And many Mexican wholesalers and agents also paid regular visits to GD and showed interests in dealing in GD products.
