The State of Bavaria is situated in the southeast of Germany, neighboring Austria to the south and the Czech Republic to the east. The crossing of the Alps features the state a landscape with abundant mountains, forests and lakes.  With an area of 70,549 square kilometers and a 12.33 million population, Bavaria is the largest state in Germany and divided into 7 special administrative zones, featuring 25 cities and 71 countries.

Being the largest agricultural region in Germany, only 7 % of the whole state population is engage in agriculture and forestry, dropping from the 30% in 1950s. Being a modern high-tech industrial center, Bavaria has turned into one of the most dynamic economic powerhouse.
Munich, the State Capital, is Bavarian economic and cultural center. Industries like mechanic manufacturing, electronics and toy are concentrated in the areas around Nuremberg, Fuerth, and Erlangen, boasting of multinationals like Siemens, Grundig, etc. Augsburg is renowned for its mechanic manufacturing and textile industry.  Meanwhile, Regensburg features its electric industry and engine factory for BMW. Likewise, Ingolstadt is proud of its auto industry with the presence of Audi factory. Beer industry in Bavaria enjoys worldwide reputation with hundreds of beer breweries.

Being the best German tourist attraction in Germany, tourism industry in Bavaria ranks the first in Germany and is a key state revenue source.

With its 350-billion-Euro-GDP and 28,918 Euro per capita GDP, Bavaria is much more economically developed than the German and European average. Bavaria is also one of the markets with purchasing power in the world with Munich is generally regarded as the powerhouse for European economic development.

Besides the multinationals such as Siemens, BMW, Audi, Mann, EADS and Adidas-Salomon etc., Bavaria's economy is the characterized in its of numerous SMEs in the field of industry, handicraft and service sector. Bavaria enjoys edge cut advantage in many a high-tech areas such information and telecommunication technology, bio and genetic engineering, energy, environmental protection, etc. Service industry takes a prominent position in Bavaria with its insurance and tourism ranking the first in Germany and banking industry the second. Exhibition and conference facilities in Munich and Nuremberg are worldwidely renowned. Bavaria also provides a higher-than-national-level variety for the service to improve the operating performance of enterprises.

The agreement for the establishment of sister province relationship between Guangdong and Bavaria was signed on 20, October, 2004.
