2008-06-29 16:12:42
¡¡¡¡Wang Yang, Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and Secretary of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, and Governor Huang Huahua, met with Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation (KNPC) Chief Executive Officer Saad al-Shuwaib and Sinopec General Manager Su Shulin at the Zhudao Hotel on May 27, 2008.
¡¡¡¡Both sides had extensive and thorough exchange on how to promote the Nansha Refining Complex Project.
¡¡¡¡The Nansha Refinery Complex is a significant project under the framework of enhancing Sino-Kuwaiti energy cooperation.
¡¡¡¡Utilizing KNPC¡¯s stable crude oil supply, 15 million tons per year, the project will help to ensure Guangdong¡¯s energy demand for its social and economic development.
¡¡¡¡With joint efforts from Sinopec and its Kuwaiti counterpart, preparation work regarding programming, land planning and environmental protection, is carried out on a tight and well-organized schedule.
Shuwaib said his government and KNPC attach great importance to the project after expressing his thanks for Guangdong¡¯s support.
Large investment will be launched to keep the project accorded with the most-advanced technologies and standards, Shuwaib responded on the highly-concerned issue regarding environmental protection.
¡°We value environmental protection as much as you do, since Kuwaiti staff will be working at the factories and living in Guangzhou.¡± Shuwaib said.
Su Shulin then made an introduction regarding the project¡¯s latest progress, saying Sinopec will continue to offer full support to the project to be built for easing the tension of Guangdong¡¯s petroleum supply, ensuring energy security and maintaining social stability.
¡°Nansha, located in the center of Pearl River Delta, is geographically vital for environmental protection,¡± Wang said.?
¡°Those measures you mentioned that more investment will be raised to intensify environment protection, most advanced standard will be followed in designing and building the refinery, and more strict regulations will be carried out in pollutant emission, are of great impetus to promote the project.¡±
Guangdong and Guangzhou will continue to support the project and spare no efforts to solve any problems it might confront with, Wang noted, adding he hopes both sides work together to create favorable conditions for speeding up the project.
Member of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor Huang Longyun, Mayor of Guangzhou City Zhang Guangning, CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee Deputy Secretary General Ge Changwei, GDFAO Director General Fu Lang, Provincial Development and Reform Commission Director General Li Miaojuan, Provincial Department of Land and Resources Director General Zhao Yufang, Provincial Department of Construction Director General Fang Qingfang, and Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau Director General Li Qing also attended the meeting.
