Ou Guangyuan, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Guangdong Province, met with Japanese Consul General in Guangzhou Yoshida Masaharu on May 28, 2008.

    Yoshida expressed his sympathy and condolences for the massive casualties and damage caused by the earthquake in Sichuan on May 12.

    “Japan is a neighboring country to China. When the disaster hits its neighbor, it is natural for Japan to try its best to provide assistance. To this end, Japan has sent disaster relief and medical team to the earthquake-stricken areas,” he said.

    Yoshida also extended his admiration to the unswerving efforts and excellent performance by the Chinese government and people in response to the unexpected huge natural disaster, which “deeply impressed Japanese people”.

    Ou extended his sincere thanks to the assistances and sympathy from Japanese government and people to the disaster-hit areas in Sichuan.

    ”The massive casualties and damage caused by the earthquake are unprecedented. We firmly believe we will eventually overcome all the difficulties and achieve the final win in disaster relief due to the strong leadership from the party, the common efforts of all the Chinese people and our systemic advantages,” Ou said.

    Ou also made an introduction concerning the functions of People’s Congress of Guangdong Province, its legal construction, and the implementation of Labor Contract Law as well as the draft of its implementation regulations.

    Ou said the newly sworn in People’s Congress of Guangdong Province will be committed to creating a sound legal environment focused on the goal of striving to be the pioneering province in the application of Scientific Outlook on Development set up by provincial party committee.
