Vice Governor Wan Qingliang met with Anthony Nightingale, Managing Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited, at provincial hall on May 22, 2008.

    Wan expressed his welcome to the visiting guests before making a briefing concerning the social and economic development in the province as well as the challenges Guangdong is facing.

    “Guangdong will firmly stick to mind emancipation, apply the Scientific Outlook on Development, speed up industrial restructuring, and transform economic growth pattern aimed to increase its international competitiveness. One of the important measures is to strive to develop modern service industry,” Wan said.

    “Jardine Matheson is well experienced in business operation with excellent management expertise as a multinational focused on modern service industry. I wish it would make the most of its advantages to seize the opportunities brought about by the new round of industrial development and continue to expand investment in Guangdong.

    “Guangdong will continue to provide quality assistance and service for all the foreign companies, including Jardine Matheson, in their business development.”

    Nightingale extended his appreciation to Wan for the meeting and conveyed his sympathy and condolences to the victims of Sichuan earthquake, saying he wishes all the people afflicted by the disaster could overcome the difficulties as soon as possible.

    Wan expressed his gratitude to Nightingale and made a briefing regarding Guangdong’s participation in the earthquake disaster relief.

    Nightingale also made an introduction concerning Jardine Matheson’s business and investment in Guangdong, saying he appreciates the assistance and support from Guangdong provincial government to his company over the years.

    Both sides exchanged views over how to further intensify Jardine Matheson’s investment in the province.

    Wu Jun, Deputy Director General of Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, and Su Caifang, Deputy Director General of GDFAO, attended the meeting.
