Hu Wei meets Bruneian Ambassador
2008-06-03 14:31:45 GDFAO

GDFAO Deputy Director General Hu Wei met with visiting Bruneian Ambassador to China Magdalene Teo and hosted a luncheon in Teo’s honor at White Swan Hotel on May 19, 2008.

Hu extended his welcome to the visiting guests, saying Guangdong Brunei economic cooperation and trade ties maintain a good momentum of development with bright prospects for cooperation in tourism, light industry and service industry.

Hu said he wishes Teo would establish a good platform for Guangdong Brunei cooperation and exchanges.
“Guangdong is the largest province for outbound tourists in China while Brunei is one of the favorite foreign destinations for Guangdong tourists. I believe there will be more and more Guangdong tourists visiting Brunei,” Hu said.

“Guangdong and Brunei share geographic closeness and cultural affinity. 10 percent of Bruneian people have Chinese origin and most of them are originally from Guangdong,” Teo said.

“I will actively promote Guangdong to Bruneian people in order to enhance mutual exchanges and cooperation in trade, investment, tourism and other areas.

“Brunei is implementing economic diversification and industrial restructuring. It has large demand for light industry, in particular air-conditioner manufacturing, and we welcome Guangdong enterprises to actively make investment in this area.

“I wish this visit would serve as a good starting point to further boost mutual cooperation. I believe Guangdong Brunei exchanges and cooperation would be further strengthened in various fields.”
