Wang Yang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, met with visiting Gernot Weiss, President of Flextronics International Ltd., in Guangzhou on May 9, 2008.

    Flextronics, a Fortune Global 500 companies, is a leading electronics manufacturing services provider with a total of over 10 billion yuan investment in Guangdong.

    Wang extended his cordial welcome to Weiss on behalf of provincial party committee and government, saying Guangdong will unswervingly open wider to the outside world and improve the level of foreign direct investment.

    “Guangdong is willing to expand cooperation and exchanges with all the multinationals including Flextronics,” Wang said.

    We will strive to introduce advanced technology and place emphasis on the development of advanced manufacturing and modern service industry in order to improve Guangdong’s international competitiveness and achieve mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation, Wang added.

    Weiss made a briefing regarding Flextronics’s profile, saying it is planning to increase its investment in China including Guangdong.

    It will set up R&D center in Guangdong, Beijing and Chengdu in hopes of establishing a complete industry chain in Guangdong, Weiss said.

    Vice Governor Wan Qingliang, Ge Changwei, Deputy Secretary General of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, and Liang Yaowen, Director General of Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, attended the meeting.
