Guangdong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (Guangdong Friendship Association in short), is a non-governmental organization at provincial level and an organization member of Chinese People's Association for friendship with Foreign Countries. With the tenet of promoting understanding and friendship, exchanges and cooperation in various fields between people of Guangdong province and peoples of the world, maintaining world peace as well as enhancing common development, Guangdong Friendship Association dedicates itself to staying in contact with friendly institutions and people of all walks of life worldwide and development of exchange programs. Serving as a medium for people-to-people exchanges between Guangdong and the outside world, its programs are extensively supported by Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong and all social sectors.

Guangdong Friendship Association was formerly known as Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Guangzhou Branch established in 1956. With the development over the past five decades, the Association has established contacts and co-operative relations with about 100 friendly organizations in more than 30 countries and regions. It has set up a bridge of communication between the people of Guangdong and peoples of the world, which has made positive contributions to the economic drive and social development of Guangdong. With adoption of organization membership, the Association now has 128 organization members and has engaged a number of well-known personages from home and abroad to be its honorary presidents and specially engaged members, thus provided a solid foundation for developing friendly activities with the outside world.

The major functions of Guangdong Friendship Association are as follows:

1. Host good-will missions and friendly public figures at the invitation of Guangdong Friendship Association;

2. Accomplish work entrusted by Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and to support and coordinate the friendly exchanges conducted by Friendship Associations in other provinces, autonomous regions or cities under direct administration of the central government;

3. Develop cultural exchange programs in various forms;

4. Work together with government agencies and departments concerned to promote co-operation with foreign countries in the fields of economy and trade, science and technology, education, health, and human resources development;

5. Provide guidance to its affiliated friendship associations;

6. Conduct other activities conducive to the promotion of mutual understanding and trust and establishment of cooperative relations between Guangdong and countries of the world.
