Employment for Spouse

1. Eligible Organizations

With the approval from the Foreign Affairs Office and relevant authorities and completed formalities as required, the spouse of a member of the consular post may work in a representative office in China, which may be established by foreign enterprise, private institute, corporate, international organization out of the UN system or international nongovernmental organization, or in a Chinese enterprise with foreign investment or a business firm owned by Chinese individuals. Also, he / she may work as a resident reporter or staff member of a news agency of a third state in China.

If the spouse of a member of the consular post wishes to teach voluntarily in a foreign language institute or high school on the short-term basis (within six months), he / she may, with the approval from the Foreign Affairs Office and the provincial education department, give presentations or lectures on selected topics. In this way, he / she may continue to enjoy the due privileges and immunities in China.

2. Application Procedures

(1) To apply and declare, with a note of the consular post to the Foreign Affairs Office, that the applicant waives the due privileges and immunities in China.
(2) To return the applicant's Consular Identity Card or the Service Identity Card to the Foreign Affairs Office upon the approval of the Foreign Affairs Office in a note.
(3) To cancel the original diplomatic or service visa at the Foreign Affairs Office with approving documents of the relevant authorities and his / her passport.
(4) To apply to the local Public Security Bureau for the work (Z) visa and residence registration with the notification of the Foreign Affairs Office and a general passport of the applicant.
(5) To apply for his / her tax registration at the tax bureau and pay the tax as required by China's Law on Tax once recruited by the organization as applied.
